CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

MKASS seeks to create a vibrant learning environment that provides co-curricular opportunities to help nurture talents.  A student can belong up to a maximum of three clubs (provided they don’t meet at the same time).Our Clubs and Societies Coordinator assisted by various the patrons oversee the clubs and societies programme. The range currently on offer is;

DRAMA 

The Drama Club at MKASS is a vibrant place where students can hone their talents in the Performing Arts in an environment that encourages creativity and self-expression. During club meetings, thespians in the making are identified and emboldened in their quest to sharpen their gifts and talents. This is in line with our core values as an institution; where we believe in bringing out the best in every aspect of a child’s ability, including creative discipline.

MUSIC PROGRAM


This is a creative arts program that involves both classroom teaching, instrumental coaching and performance of vocal and instrumental music. The program offers high class training in:

  • Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello)
  • Voice
  • Brass and woodwind instruments(trumpet, cornet, trombone, tuba, saxophone, clarinet, recorder, flute,Guitar Piano
  • Western drum sets
  • African instruments(Ohangla drum set, Marimba and chivoti)

Our mission is to improve the students’ musical talents, both in theory and practice. Our goal is to ensure that the students achieve Merits in their ABRSM exams and any other Music exam they sit for. The students sit for the ABRSM international exam, and thereafter awarded with a Certificate for the different grade levels i.e. Grade 1-8.  Students who are interested in these instruments receive individual coaching from the following teachers:

  • Mr. Kimari - piano
  • Ms. Ann - Strings
  • Ms. Grace - Voice
  • Mr. Mathenge - Guitar
  • Mr. Aran - Brass and Woodwind
  • Ms. Judith - Ohangla drums and Chivoti
  • Mr. Mumba - Western drum sets and Marimba

(A tuition fee is charged for each instrument.)

Due to increasing number of students taking part in the program, the Music department has gone beyond coaching to performing. Groups formed include the:

  • String orchestra - Ms. Ann
  • Brass band- Mr. Aran
  • The choir- Ms. Judith
  • The students’ band- Ms. Judith and Mr. Mathenge

All these groups have performed in various events in and out of school. 

Achievements 

The choir, brass band and the Orchestra have all performed in the Kenya Music festival to the National level.

SPORTS

In line with the school’s objectives, MKASS seeks to provide sports in a way that provides for competitiveness and participation of all students. Teachers and coaches ensure are enthusiastic in their encouragement for the same. We offer a variety of sporting disciplines and have posted some excellent and encouraging results. These include soccer, rugby, basketball, handball, hockey, lawn tennis, badminton, swimming, aerobics and athletics. MKASS participates in both local and international sports fetes and competitions and continues to excel. The school both hosts and visits neighbouring schools.
